Northridge school mexico after-school program
As with everything else we do in school, after-school programs are thought out and operate under age-appropriate guidelines. Moreover, they are seen as one more way of helping boys and families grow in virtue and character.
The benefits of extracurricular activities are clear, as they:
- Foster initiative to continue growing
- beyond their schoolwork
- Cultivate leadership skills
- Enhance teamwork experiences
- Develop management skills
- Foster confidence
- Boost academic performance when properly balanced
Sports
Northridge School Mexico offers the guidance of highly qualified coaches and trainers in each of the sports modalities that are practiced by our boys.
Same as in academics, we believe that following the principle of deliberate practice will lead to our students’ improvement in sportsmanship.
Currently, the boys are able to try out and participate in the following sports:
- Soccer
- Basketball
- Tae-kwon-do
- NSM Fit*
- Flag-football*
- Volleyball
- Various activities alongside Northridge Prep, Chicago
*These activities are exclusively for High School boys, and are part of their regular PE curriculum.
Chess
As an off-the-field sport, and among other things, chess also:
- Teaches boys how to face success, as well as defeat,
- Develops problem solving skills,
- Exercises the brain,
- Promotes concentration,
- Improves mathematical skills.
The chess club also has the opportunity to participate in the interscholastic sports tournament known as Copa Fortaleza, where boys from various brother schools compete in an effort to put their school’s name in good standing.
Technology
As not all boys choose to participate in athletic sports, we make sure there is something that will give them all the opportunity to benefit from activities that extend beyond the classroom.
In this regard, the boys are able to join our Robotics club.
School clubs such as Robotics are key to developing critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and collaboration skills, among others.
Students are encouraged to think outside the box and work both individually and as a team to come up with ways to solve a variety of problems.
Academics
Academics is a space where students may either work with a tutor, in case they have the need, or else spend time at Study Hall while waiting for either their ride home or their After-school activity to begin.
We offer individual and group tutoring that allows them to improve and build upon their academic performance.
While in Study Hall, boys will have access to teacher-guided sessions that can help them get a head start on their homework or work through various ludic activities.
Music
Our extracurricular music program offers boys the opportunity to perfect their instrument-playing technique both individually and as part of a group.
Every one of our ensembles is made up of hard-working boys who follow in a well-established trajectory founded by grit and perseverance, and which has earned them recognition both nationwide and abroad.
The ensembles that make up our after-school music program are the following:
- Ninja Flute Choir
- Samurai Woodwinds Choir
- NSM Boys Choir
- Petit Orchestre
- Bowing Strings
- Downtown Strings
- City Jazz Band
- Atomic Band
- Metropoli Jazz Band
